Ashton was both a biological and a
​sorority sister.
The oldest of three girls, Ashton was a big sister and role model to her sisters, Briana and Chandler.
Ashton attended The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a member of the Theta Tau chapter of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Ashton pledged Zeta in the fall of 2007.
